My Faith Restored - 2nd March 2007
I have learned a couple of painful and expensive lessons these past few
days in Eve. Two days ago (28th Feb) I was happily mining away in
Faurent (0.5 sec) in my Covetor, trying to make enough ISK to by a
Hulk. After a couple of hours a [BAX] member flew into the belt and
approached me in his Rifter. I immediately let out my Drones, stopped
my strip miners and recovered as much Ore as I could from my jet can
back into my cargo hold. Sure enough the Rifter pilot jets a can next
to mine and steals all my remaining ore, then flies off.
I proceeded to mine as the amount of Veldspar he had stolen was worth very little. 10mins later he came back with a friend in a Kestral. The Ore was stolen yet again, this time by the Kestral pilot. and they then proceeded to ram me out of range from my can. I was already suffering with lag (my old P4 1.7GHz PC struggles with Eve after a while) so was watching the events unfold in a frustrating freeze frame manner. I managed to return my drones and warp to station.
I jumped in my Dominix and returned to the roid belt. Within a minute they returned again. I immediately engaged the Kestral who was criminally flagged to me. I blew him up, but the Rifter would not engage, I tried to provoke him by stealing from his can, but he wouldn't bite. So I returned to station. At I came out of warp, the Rifter was hot on my heels and started to lock me. He fired first, and I returned fire. He was no match for my Domi, however the Raven that undocked ([BAX]) was. He engaged me. I tried to pull in my Hammerhead II's and dock, and was told I was unable too due to recent aggression! I swore. I started to panic. I tried warping to another station, but was unable to as I was warp scrambled. At this point I realised I had to stay and fight, so I launched my Ogre II's and started Nossing the Raven, but I was already running very low on cap from running my dual large reppers and I was very nearly into structure. I had no chance, and lost the ship. Quite deservedly to be honest. It was a hard lesson learnt. I was set-up, and I took the bait outside the station when I should have docked (as said in Top-Gun, 'What you should have done was land the goddam plane!'). I was a bit pissed off by this, but I still said 'gf' in local, and my assailant did the same.
Today (2nd March), I was hauling all my 0.0 equipment out of Pure Blind as I was leaving Agony Unleashed to return to my old crew in Sylph Alliance. I managed to get through the 0.0 pipe to Saranen (chased the last three jumps). I then proceeded towards Nonni, when I was one jump from Nonni in a 0.4 system I relaxed. I was sat near the gate changing my Bio, when I was attacked. Concord were unable to intervene quickly enough to prevent me loosing my Hauler and all my goods, which from the kill mail you can see was quite valuable stuff:

Now add the stuff that didn't get destroyed but was pilfered by the local vultures. An Enyo, an Incursus, some T2 blasters and rail guns etc.
I received an Eve-mail from MasterDk78 apologising to me for my loss, telling me he knows how it feels, but not to let it get me down. Saying it was nothing personal, I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I replied that he didn't need to apologise. He taught me a valuable lesson. But if he felt he had a conscience then maybe some ISK compensation in my favour could assist us both. I didn't expect a reply. But he did. He thanked my for my kind eve-mail, and said although ISK was tight for him, he had sent me 10mill. Now the amount doesn't matter, what does matter is the gesture. MasterDk78 has restored my faith in the Eve community. It shows there still are some decent players out there. Who play Eve Online in it's true spirit. Wouldn't the game be so much better if there were more players like MasterDk78? I hope everyone can learn something from my experience here, even if it is just 'Don't update you Bio by a gate in 0.4'. But preferably about playing the game with honour, and respect for your fellow gamers.
